Some, recently, the audible alert for mail arrived -- ceased. But, if I open
Mozilla Mail and check my mail, delete stuff, read and file stuff -- close
Mozilla. The next time I open it to check my mail -- the audible alert goes off
and the box appears down in the lower rh corner of screen telling me how many
emails just arrived -- the number from the previous visit!

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Continuous result, every time I check mail.
2.
3.

Expected Results:
Expect audible and # of emails whenever Mozilla automatically checks mail [1/2
hour increments].

This is the 2nd of 2 bugs recently appearing. I'll reinstall and let you know
if they go away!
Summary: Audible "mail arried" alert only happens after I close and re-open Mail. → Audible "mail arrived" alert only happens after I close and re-open Mail.
When you are not getting the alert, are you also showing new mail headers in the
thread pane? That is, is it a failure of notification (bug 164226), or a
failure to check for new mail (bug 127461 or bug 189323)?

POP or IMAP mail?
