(Whiteboard: [PDT+])

my window manager allows me to alt-click to raise windows on Linux.... I have
been using this for years now, and recently mozilla stopped accepting any typing
other than printable characters, backspace, and enter.

This makes it impossible to edit a message once it has gotten in this state.
I'm assigning to hyatt, cc'ing saari, pavlov and blizzard to see if they have
any ideas why this would be happening. I'm also adding akkana from the editor
team, hoping she will know who on the editor team deals with key issues (if it's
not her)
Yes, I see this too. If I raise the editor window with alt-click, the menu
system sees the alt key press, and now the menus think they have focus and start
grabbing all key events.

If I hit the alt key again, by itself, while focus is still in the window, I can
get partially out of this mode and start typing again, but modifier keys still
don't work and I haven't found any way to get them back. Clicking around in the
menus doesn't help.

My suggestion: a mouse click anywhere should cancel the "menu keys think they're
tracking the alt key" mode.
I'm nominating this for beta1, it's really preventing me from getting work done
on linux.
