Hello,

as suggested in http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/qa/softwareupdate.html,
I tried to update Firefox 1.0 Preview Release on MacOS 10.3 "Panther" as
indicated but it did not work for me. I checked all 27 bugs entered in this
section so far but could not find the report of a complete failure, so I decided
to open a new bug.

I have several extensions installed and I have a german System version, two
circumstances that are most likely the cause for this feature not to work
properly. If I am right with this guess I think thes dependencies should be removed.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Follow steps one to four for Users of Preview Release on the page mentioned
before.
2. Step five is not precisely described for the Mac version. These was mentioned
in other bug descriptions before and does not mean a severe problem. Still the
page mentioned should be corrected. On Mac, you dont have to look in the Tools
Menu for Options but go to the Firefox Menus Preferences Item. There, it is the
same as on other platforms, id est Advanced/Software Update. I also tried to
uncheck the box "Periodically check for updates to my Extensions and Themes"
before hitting the "Check now" button, but that did not change a thing.
3. As proposed in step six, the Update Wizard appears but it does not check for
updates as far as I can see. The progress bar does not change within at least
seven minutes. The URL as mentioned in step four of the aforementioned page is
entered properly and can be read from my machine.

Actual Results:
The update Wizard is stuck. It can be cancelled and the browser is still
responsive. It just does not present the updates available.

Expected Results:
Available Updates should be presented by the wirzard as described in step six of
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/qa/softwareupdate.html.

You will find my trials in your logs under IP 82.82.34.248.

Ah, and I can tell you another detail. In the about:config page, another related
attribute is changed after trying the wizard. app.update.updatesAvailable has
status "user set" and value "true" (boolean). All other related variables
starting with app.update.* have kept their default values.
I guess this should ahave been made clear inthe test instructions, but I am
pretty sure that Software Update is not yet available for the MAC.
Software Update has been disabled for OS X (1.0RC2 and up).
