For a given thunderbird session, over time, less and less of the folder and
summary windows are clickable.  For example, if my folder view has:

[e-mail]
  Inbox
  Drafts
  Sent
  Trash
  ...

...when I start thunderbird up, I can click on Inbox, it will select it, and the
message view will show what's in the Inbox.  If I click on the first message in
the Inbox, I get details in the detail view.

After thunderbird has been running for an hour or two, if I click on the Inbox,
nothing happens.  If I click on the top message in whatever folder happens to be
selected, nothing happens.

The longer thunderbird is running, the lower this "area of inactivity" gets,
although it never seems to extend lower than maybe the first 4 or 5 folders in
my folder view.

This also affects the pulldown for "View: All" above the message view, although
it does not affect the search input (I'm still able to search for messages).

It is also possible to interact with things in the "no click zone".  Like, if I
were to select the Trash folder and then hit the up-arrow key until I get to
Inbox, I'm able to use my keyboard to navigate around and interact with messages
in the "no click zone" too.

1. start thunderbird
2. wait a few hours
3. try to click the inbox

this still happens with the thunderbird 1.1 alpha (and has happened reproducibly
since initially opening this bug report for every snapshot build I've used...)

(whups, cut-and-pasted the wrong description for #2)

as you can see from the images, the rest of the scroll window updates, but the
upper-left part of the app doesn't update (it's not clickable, and it doesn't
draw new stuff)
