I noticed as of the November builds sunbird supported changing the color of
different categories, as per this bug: bug 171657.

I was somewhat surprised by the implementation, such that you are simply
changing the border color of the box, instead of the whole color of the box for
a given task.

Then I realized, this probably has to do with the fact that you can *also*
change the colors of different calendars, as per bug 190756.

But, to be perfectly honest, you can hardly see the color outlines of the
boxes, especially if you run your screen at any high resolution. I've been
playing with it for 30minutes now, and I haven't found a color configuratoin
that allows me to tell, at a glance, which event is in which category.

The question then, is how does one visualize both the category *and* the
calendar without having to squint?

My proposed solution is to add an additional color region to the event bar at
the right end of the box. This could be accomplished by adding a colored
circle, or coloring the last squared region of the box a different color. This
way, the major color of the event is the calendar, thus colored circle or square
would represent the category.

This solution is best exemplified by the attached jpg below (sorry for the poor
compression, on had MS Paint at work).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Color your categories in prefs.js, such as
user_pref("calendar.category.color.holidays", "#00CC33");
Actual Results:
you practically have to squint to see the colored border

Expected Results:
I expect to be able to tell, at a glance, the different categories.
Attached jpeg given crude example of how easy visualization could be
accomplished (sorry for poor jpeg compression)

Right.
The current way of coloring the borders is a start to get some feedback on it,
like this report :)

The solution you suggest in the screenshot has the problem of that it takes too
much screen space imo.

Maybe just making the border 2px instead of 1px would help? At least it would
take less space. I think you can try that by editing userchrome.css, but i don't
have the exact rules
orion,
The category colors border is now 2px in nightlies. Does that satisfy your
request in this bug? Any other feedback on the colors welcome.
Marking as fixed based on lack of response from the reporter and the checkin
from bug 299846.
