In the installer there should be an option to add an icon to the quick launch
bar.
This option should (can) only be available if the system is an Win98/IE4 or
better.

Must be done? but no keywors/status. This won't happen.

If you do it, you must prompt the user. I hate this junk.
Also some /companies/ like _having shortcuts to their_ apps on the desktop. MS
*dislikes* this.

I can't see the PDT approving this based on other P3 rejections. If this is a
strong requirement please have the PDT comment in this bug that they are open to
accepting this before I have Sean go off and waste time coming up with a patch.

comments from peterlubczynski@netscape.com:

IE Does it,
MSN does it,
Nav 4.x does it,
and....
AIM does it AND has a tray icon,
Real (that we ship with) does it AND has a tray icon,
Winamp (that we ship with) does it AND has a tray icon!

Could we put a shortcut ot Netscape 6 down there?

I absolutely think we should have it. Why wouldn't we... it will only increase
our usage. IMO it should be an option in the installer and should be on by
default.
Provided we can not easily prompt the user, I think it is ok to simply put this
shortcut here... so many other software products do the same thing. There is one
more initiative going on to put a shortcut to the download site in the taskbar
as well... FYI: Bugscape #2347

Just to correct myself... this bug has nothing to do with 2347. That bug places
something in a pull-down menu.

I think this *seems* like a little bit of work for a win that could help us a
lot. Many users never dig down to find things, and this would place Netscape
somewhere much more accessible and inviting.

Todd Pringle feels the same way, so I guess we have to do it. :-)

Sean is this Commercial only? for RTM?

Sean, is this still your bug? If it's not, could you reassign and change the
nsbeta1+ back to an nsbeta1 for retriaging.

Since I made the patches, I'll check them in.

FYI: this only adds the 'Mozilla'/'Netscape 6' shortcut to the quicklaunch bar,
no other shortcuts are added (such as profile manager, editor, or even mail
because the icons for them have not been properly integrated into
mozilla.exe/netscp6.exe.
will this patch also fix bug 42604?
(Taking over for Sean)

I think these are seperate bugs, although I may address them simultaneously.

I didn't notice that Syd already has patches for this one, so it is all his now.

Henrik, unfortunately not. That bug is a backend problem. This patch just
creates shortcuts via js scripts, not via the low level code.
Assignee: syd → ssu
patches checked in. The patches had code to create the mail shortcuts (as well
as the navigator shortcut in the quicklaunch bar), so I disabled it before
checking them in.

It should now add just the browser shortcut to the quicklaunch bar.

please also look at bug 28174. At *lot* of people hate when installers put
icons all over the system without their permission.
