Tracking bug to make sure one of us does this before 1.1.

Add a virus tab to the privacy pane. The tab should have a check box for
enabling virus scanners to scan incoming messages before they are incorporated
into the Inbox.

The tab could look a lot like the current E-mail scams tab.

Tab Name: Anti-Virus
"Thunderbird can make it easy for anti-virus software to analyze incoming mail
messages for viruses before they are stored locally."

[X] Allow anti-virus clients to quarantine individual incoming messages

1) Moves the security tab from the advanced to the privacy panel.

2) Adds a new tab to the privacy panel called Anti-Virus

Why would a user uncheck that checkbox?

because it slows things down to store a message in a temp file before it gets
added to the mailbox.

and you only really need the setting if you are using an older anti virus
software that isn't smart enough to be listening to incoming port traffice like
the new ones all do.

how will this behave for people with more modern software (which scans
everything on the port before it even reaches thunderbird)?  Will the setting be
ignored?  Will it detect I have Norton AV 2004 and just disable the checkbox?

When i saw this setting (before i saw this bug) i found it confusing because it
raised some questions in my mind:

1. Why would a user NOT check that checkbox?

2. What does it do?

Perhaps some text below the checkbox to explain what it does, and what the
ramifications are:

"Some (usually older) Anti-Virus software can't analize an e-mail before it gets
integrated into the single mailfile used by Thunderbird [this is getting too
wordy and technical]. However, selecting this setting will slow dow [what
exactly] a bit."

I can't get over the impression that this is an option that shouldn't be exposed
in the UI (bloat & confusing). :-\

BTW: I had the same impression of the "E-mail Scams" tab. What does it do? Why
would I not check it?

I think it's better if this is left as the default behaviour: some users might
choose to disable the email scanning feature on their brand new AV software,
which means this option has to be enabled in order to ensure the safety of their
stored email. I think this option is too technical for most users to understand
properly and too crucial to be left to the confusion of the end user. Let's just
leave it as an about:config option for those who can't wait for a few more
seconds to receive their email.
