when displaying mails with UTF-charset, the fonts are messed up.

My font pref: Monospace font (ProFont).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Attached image Screenshot
The screenshot was taken after loading a saved mail (EML) into the Mozilla
browser. Note the different fonts. The wrong rendering of umlauts is an other
bug.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

jshin: Do you know if there is a already exististing bug like this one here (i think you might know :)? I find it somewhat hard to believe noone noticed this Unicode issue before (except this one here and the dupe).
There are two problems in the screenshot attached. The first is that multiple fonts are used to result in 'ransom-note' style rendering. The second is that characters with accents encoded in UTF-8 are rendered as if they're in ISO-8859-1

I bet the second is a user mistake if the reporter has this problem in mail window/thunderbird. The default encoding for a folder is set to ISO-8859-1 (which is fine) and 'ignore the character encoding specification in the mail header and always use this encoding' is also set for the folder.

If the above guess is wrong, I need to take a closer look at it.

This bug appears in all incoming UTF mails or in sent UTF mails in the Sent folder.
I can confirm this on Seamonkey 1.0.2 in Linux. All lines, even those without UTF-8 characters, are displayed in Courier instead of the preferred font.

This bug appeared since upgrading from Mozilla 1.7.11, but old e-mails that were downloaded before upgrading are displayed with the correct font.

My mistake on this comment, I was looking at a non-UTF-8 message. Old e-mails are also displayed with the wrong font.

Plain text attachments are also affected by this bug. An ISO-8859-1 message with a text file attachment has only the attachment rendered in the wrong font.
I have a similar problem with Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 and Windows. When I receive a plain-text UTF-8 mail (Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"), it is displayed in a different font than iso-8859-1 encoded mails.
I prefer to read plain-text mails in a proportional, sans serif font (verdana). This works fine, but UTF-8 mails are displayed with a huge verdana font.
This bug was also reported in the alt.os.linux.mandrake news group, "Thunderbird, Mandrake 10.1, and seeing large fonts for UTF-8".

Can you reproduce with SeaMonkey v1.1.9?
The original bug here is gone (the testcase is fine on thunderbird/trunk).

What a lot of people really want is bug 91190.
