after upgrading from 1.0 to 1.0.4 FireFox hangs when going to any URL. I tried 
uninstalling the old version as well as deleting the FireFox profile, but 
nothing helps. Yet, when I reinstall 1.0, everything works fine.

Check your firewall settings.  This sounds like it only recognizes Firefox 1.0.0
as allowed to access the Internet.

Please let us know either way so this bug can be properly dispositioned.

I think you mean with "hang" that FF doesn't connect and not that FF is frozen.
Such a connection problem is usually a firewall misconfiguration.
