'Search Messages...' for 'Subject, Contains' is helpless on IMAP account/folder

[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050629] (nightly) (W98SE) (This is not a (recent) regression.) While this a search on 'Subject, Contains' on my POP3 account works fine, it's useless on my IMAP account: it seems to search somehow, but never finds anything :-( This is different from bug 24654 about unavailable bodies. Same bug with [Mozilla Thunderbird, version 1.0+ (20050319)] (nightly) (W98SE)

search for subject in an imap folder searches on the imap server - so I suspect it's your imap server that's being useless :-) If you're unconvinced, you can generate an imap protocol log http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap please re-open if you determine that search on your imap server works correctly but thunderbird is doing something wrong.

that log shows us searching for messages containing the subject "178091" and not getting any matches from the server. Nor do we get any errors from the server. So the server is broken. We do our imap searches on the imap server. There was a request to have a checkbox ui for searching locally instead of on the server. I don't know if that ui was put in seamonkey or not. A workaround is to go offline before doing your search, and then we'll search just locally.

Idea: "server does not support search" instead of "0 found", on status bar.
