User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 Basically the problem is that when I install Firefox on a Windows machine for other people to use instead of IE, they don't always know what Firefox is. I usually rename Mozilla Firefox to "Mozilla Firefox Web Browser". However this creates a secondary problem, which is that when I install a new version of Firefox a new desktop icon is created named "Mozilla Firefox". Reproducible: Always Expected Results: 1) I suggest renaming the icon for everyone 2) If, on an upgrade, the installer does not find a launcher icon in an expected place, be it the desktop or Start menu, it probably means the user deleted it on purpose, and you should confirm that the new icon should be created.

As you have found, the icon is end-user configurable allowing you to change it to whatever you want. I think a lot of folks would find "Mozilla Firefox Web Browser" just a little too clunky... As for the upgrade issue, the update system has been completely overhauled for Firefox 1.1 and will allow patches to be issued instead of a full binary installer. The new update process will allow you to retain your icon preferences ;)

We won't change the name to such a long string. We might make changes along the lines of bug 232477.
