Great, in order to commit Telugu localization of Firefox you need to
apply for CVS account - see bug 263726 as an example.

On behalf of the Mozilla Project, I'd like to apologise for the delay in processing this request. We very much appreciate offers of help in localization.

If anyone reading this is still interested in helping to translate one or more Mozilla products into the language that this bug is about, please add a new comment to this bug to confirm your interest, saying again which products you would like to localize e.g., Firefox, Thunderbird. We will then make the necessary arrangements.
I would like to help localize Firefox, Thunderbird, Mozilla.com website and support pages into Telugu.
I too would like to help localize Firefox
Great :-) Perhaps the two of you might want to form a team and start with Firefox, and then work on the other products when that's done. You need to read this wiki page:
http://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Starting_a_localization

Create yourself a wiki page for your localisation, which registers you as the team for that language. Then, follow the instructions on the wiki to produce a language pack you can distribute through addons.mozilla.org. Once you have reached that stage, we can consider your pack for official status - although I should warn you that this is a separate process with its own complexities. Still, the community will still be able to get your pack from addons.mozilla.org in the meantime.

If you have read carefully and find the documentation isn't good enough in any way, please let us know and we will improve it.

I would like to localize Firefox, Thunderbird into language(te-IN).
Krishna: please get in touch with the other two volunteers in this bug and discuss joining the team.

Gerv
Hi arjun, veevan i would like to participate with you for firefox and thunderbird translation work. And i myself registerd in firefox_te group. If anybody intrested please join with us.
There is already some effort put into this by the Swecha team. The person who raised the bug, Sunil Mohan Adapa is a hacker at the Swecha team and should already be having all the strings.

It might be a good idea to get in contact with the Swecha team before duplicating any work.

http://www.swecha.org/wiki/Applications_to_Translate
as was specified my prasad, the swecha team have almost finished almost all the strings for both firefox and thunderbird.

and about the documentation to be translated count me in.

Could someone please follow up with the Swecha team and check if they could take down the 1.0.x versions of Firefox on http://www.swecha.org/wiki/Indic_Firefox?

Those are totally unsecure, which is something that users of Firefox really don't expect.

Getting a Firefox 1 up to a Firefox 2 or even 3 will still be a significant amount of work, too. Depending on what you start out with, http://pagesperso-orange.fr/cedric.corazza.net/html/langpack2cvstree.html is a script to convert language packs to source structures, and might be helpful in kick-starting this effort.
I am a part time contributor to the Swecha project. We will get that down in a couple of days... Its holiday time here in India for us - Diwali ;)
Thanks, Prasad. Mind attaching the latest language pack that you have to this bug before tearing those down? That will make it easier to find that work and give us a reference point. Given that it's a 1.0, I doubt you'll have sources, right?

And yes, post-holiday for that is totally fine for that.
Good to see some response from Swecha contributors. Anyway, I started the coversion of 2.0 recently and did about 10 files /scheme/browser directory.

I am planning to attend Mozilla Projectdays in foss.in (Dec 5,2007) and would like to have some progress made before that.

People from the Swecha team will be there too and will attend both the Mozilla Project Days as well as the localization one!
I am very happy to see work on Telugu Firefox taken forward.

I am attaching the te-IN language pack that was made for Firefox 1.5.0.3 (this was used in the Swecha LiveCD release back in July 2007). In case the language pack does not contain the credits properly: it is done by the Swecha Telugu Localisation Team (not me, I just helped a bit with packing)

There is quite a lot of work TODO:
1) Migrate the translations to FF 3.0. Its in a FF 1.5 language pack currently and translating to CVS format is considerable work as Axel said.
2) Complete the translations. The original translations were done for 1.0.x. There will be a gaps that need to be translated when we want to do it for 3.0.x
3) Review the translations. IMHO, the translations could be improved a lot.
4) Documentation, check/satify official localisation conditions etc.

As much as I want to work on this, I am tied up with a lot of the work and I might not be able to make any significant contributions.

Hope to see an Official Telugu Firefox 3.0!
Hello,

Telugu translations for Firefox 2.0 , Thunderbird 2.0 and Sunbird are nearly over. Would somebody help me in checking them in..

Thanks.

-Raman
Great news!

Krishna created one project over in mozdev.org
name FandTtranslation. Krishna: can you provide access to Raman, so that next steps can be taken up.

Thanks
Arjuna
I've seen a lot of interest in folks wanting to help out the Telugu localization here at FOSS.IN. It'd be really cool if we could get a source for the translations public so that those folks can get involved, even just having more eyes testing will be good.
Thanks Axel, Yep i am one more who is interested in localization. I just know the basic information about localization, might be i can contribute if some one can get me the source for translations.

Thanks and regards!!
I would like to know about the current efforts going on for the translation.
Would be happy to contribute to the translation.

Firefox 2 translation for te-IN

r- on this one. This is close, but there are a few bustages.

Firstly, the localization of reporter is missing, http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla1.8/source/extensions/reporter/locales/en-US/chrome/ is missing in extensions/reporter/chrome.

In browser/chrome/browser/bookmarks/bookmarks.dtd, there is a trailing '>' missing for sortDescending.label. Same for bySite.label in browser/history/history.dtd, font.langGroup.canadian in browser/preferences/fonts.dtd, and noMigrationSources.label in browser/migration/migration.dtd. browser/pageInfo.dtd misses a leading '"' for mediaDimensions. PENegationBadInner is missing from dom/chrome/layout/css.properties. And in toolkit/chrome/global/nsHelperAppDlg.dtd,
intro.attachment.noDesc.label has two '"' at the start, either one is wrong, or it should be a ".

These should yield XML parsing errors at runtime, and render the browser in a bad state, thus r-.

On the other hand, the translation rate is at 79%, so the actual work might be good, and the existing stuff is easy to fix.

On a related note, in Mozilla, we're generally preferring short locale codes to long ones, is the te-IN actually saying anything meaningful vs just 'te' as a locale code? I.e., are there versions of Telugu spoken outside of India that differ from the one in India?
(In reply to comment #30)
> are there versions of Telugu spoken outside of India that
> differ from the one in India?

No, there aren't other versions of Telugu spoken outside India.
Hi Pike,

I have corrected all errors/mistakes you pointed out. Please check the latest tarball & let me know, if there is still something needs to be done...

Firefox 2 translation for te-IN

setting back the r- flag on this attachment. It's a good practice to keep the flags even on obsolete attachments, that way, you can tell why they are obsoleted.

r=me, as per irc, we'll be using the short locale code 'te'. I'll do some minor local adjustments before doing the initial commit of this, in particular removing obsolete files and adjust te vs te-IN in bookmarks.html. Follow ups will happen in the bug 411097 with the alias land-te and its dependencies. Interested folks should feel free to CC themselves there.

The initial check-in is done, and the first language pack is built on the l10n server.

http://l10n.mozilla.org/buildbot/waterfall is the waterfall log (for all languages, you gotta search a bit to find builds that are actually for Telugu), and the most recent language pack is uploaded to http://l10n.mozilla.org/~buildslave/incubator/.

Please test this heavily and report back in bug 411097.

Congrats so far, resolving this bug FIXED. New bugs are filed, and the wiki pages are updated.

I traced the problem to older firefox 2.0rc3 installation on my linux system.I tried with 2,0.0.11 and it worked fine
