User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5

I wanted to make Firefox my default Web Browser so I looked up how to do it in
the Help Documention. What I found was instructions for doing it in Windows, NOT
Mac OS 10.4.2. (I found the information I needed else where, in Safari's Help, I
think.)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Help
2.Search
3.Keyword: Default

Actual Results:
Did not get the information I needed.

Expected Results:
Give me step by step instructions for changing the default browser on Macintoshes.
On Mac, the "Using Mozilla Firefox" doc reads like this:

"Making Firefox Your Default Browser

Firefox displays web pages on the Internet and on your computer. To easily open
web pages, you can make Firefox your default browser.

To make Firefox your default web browser, select Firefox > Preferences and click
the Check Now button in the General panel."

Please explain how that's wrong, as I don't have a Mac.
Summary: Help Documentation for Macintosh version provides Windows information, not Macintosh information → doc on how to make Firefox the default browser not correct on Mac

That's not what's displayed in Firefox 1.0.5, which is where the problem is
reported. (Speaking of which, reporter, you should upgrade to Firefox 1.0.6
when you have the time, because there are bugs in 1.0.5 that break some
extensions. The bugs aren't security problems, tho, so it's not really critical.)

I'm pretty sure we've got this covered now, tho, with the Mac shell service
stuff and our continuing changes to documentation. Reporter, would you mind
downloading a Firefox nightly build and taking a look to see whether what we
have now in bleeding-edge code in terms of documentation of the Mac default
browser UI is acceptable to you? You can download a semi-recent nightly here:

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-07-26-07-trunk

(In case you're curious, I'm suggesting a nightly build from a couple weeks ago
because some checkins a couple days after the 26th have left things a bit
fragile; I don't remember anything being particularly broken around the 26th.)
I used the link to get the Deerpark Program. Not only did the Help
Documentation have better information but its preferences had a option to set
the default browser, which Firefox doesn't have.(In reply to comment #0)

I used the link to get the Deerpark Program. Not only did its Help
Documentation have better information but its preferences had a option to set
the default browser, which Firefox doesn't have.
Marking as WORKSFORME then since Firefox 1.0.x only recieves critical updates,
usually security related, and there's no problem with the latest trunk code.
