After opening a attachement of a news message in an external program, the next
selected message (either per mouseclick or by pressing "n" for next message)
won't download.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Choose a news article with attachement
2. Open the attachement with a double-click or right-click "open"
3. In the upcoming dialog choose "Open with"
4. Return to Thunderbird.
5. Select another news article, which hasn't been read nor downloaded yet.

Actual Results:
The selected article won't be downloaded, the message preview is empty.

Expected Results:
Download the news article and display it.
This bug is still present in Version 2.0.0.14 (20080421). Still 100% reproducible.
Version: unspecified → 2.0
Can you provide a newsgroup and article to reproduce with?
Server: news.povray.org
Group: povray.binaries.*
Article: * (with attachement)
Still WFM... how are you returning to thunderbird?
Doesnt' seem to make a difference.
One of Alt+Tab, taskbar, closing the external app.
Confirmed by sid0 on Windows Vista. Windows-only.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
The first message selected after opening the attachment doesn't download. If another message is selected after that, that does download properly. Tested this with WinRAR (zip files) and Windows Photo Gallery (images).

This is also reproducible for some applications (WinRAR) if they are closed before selecting the next message. However, if an image is opened in Windows Photo Gallery, and that's closed before selecting the next message, the message downloads properly.
