One of the nice things about Firefox 1.5 beta is that the browser window now displays its own message when the server is not found. Unfortunately it looks really ugly when the page is being loaded from the sidebar instead of the main window. I suggest that instead of this page, just display a simple xul window with a label that says "This panel is currently unavailable". This way the message is displayed clearly in a way that fits into the size of the sidebar.

Can I see a screenshot of the existing behavior?

As you can see, the special "not found" pages should not be applied to pages displayed in the sidebar. Instead display a straightforward message without any formatting.
