Please remove the dictionary.com quick search from bookmarks, and make the start
page
http://ga-ie.start.mozilla.com/firefox

Remove the getfirefox.com product page, mozilla.org should link to mozilla.com
now. The store should link to http://store.mozilla-europe.org/ga-IE, then we
can redirect to the european store once that opens.

Shouldn't google and yahoo use irish versions? And amazon likely the en-GB one?

Do you mean that the www.mozilla.org bookmark in bookmarks.html
should be changed to www.mozilla.com?

Only Google offers something in the Irish language. I thought I had all of the URLs set to point to http://www.google.com/search?hl=ga
Did I miss one in the bookmarks?

Oh, not precise enough, these comments were about the search engine plugins.
I bet it'd make more sense to reuse the en-GB plugins than the en-US ones.

Axel, can you confirm that if we make our own plugins, that they should be named like so:

amazon-ga-IE.src
google-ga-IE.src

.. and so on.
If you do, yes.
The question is, should you, or should you stick to en-GB. I'd suggest so,
as the src files are ASCII only anyway, and I'm not sure how many gaelic services
are on the schedule for 1.5.
We could probably reuse the en-GB amazon and ebay plugins (for co.uk sites I presume), but ga-IE version of Google and Yahoo would be useful I think.
yeah
We're now using the en-GB plugins for amazon, eBay, and Yahoo.
I changed the google-en-GB.src to point to google.ie, changed the name to google-ga-IE.src and tested it; it works fine.
Also added the only Irish language search engine, aimsigh.com.

Other changes (to bookmarks and start page URL) are the same as the previous patch.

new patch for bookmarks and search engine plugins, ga-IE

+<browser
+ update="http://mycroft.mozdev.org/update.php/id0/aimsigh.src"

these should update from
https://addons.mozilla.org/searchplugins/updates/aimsigh.src

We need to learn a bit more about aimsigh in general, though. It is looking a bit strange, having search and site on different domains.

aimsigh.com is a search engine that indexes only Irish language documents. It is nice because it is "linguistically sophisticated" so you can do more powerful searching when you know you want Irish documents. For example it can search for a given term whether it appears in standardized or pre-standard orthography. Maybe there's something similar for German?

The indices reside on my slu.edu site only temporarily (and this was supposed to
be hidden with some frames but I'm still ironing all of that out - I'm better with the language processsing than I am with web design. )

replacement patch with correct update URL for aimsigh

I chatted with rebron about this, and we don't think that official Firefox is the right testbed for this plugin. Be our guest to resubmit aimsigh for approval when you got it working, and without frames. Once the engine is technically and adminstrationally matured, we can think about a way to resolve the conflict-of-interest here, likely by getting some vouchers or so.

Independent from the quality of the search results or the concept of the engine, aimsigh is just not a mature, ready-for-prime-time service from what we see.
