Doing a quick search http://lxr.mozilla.org/l10n-mozilla1.8.0/search?string=mailnews.start_page.url some of the locales use chrome\:// instead of plain chrome:// http://lxr.mozilla.org/l10n-mozilla1.8.0/search?string=news.start_page.url%3Dchrome%5C%5C When I try to load URLs of that form those literally in a browser window it doesn't load because of the '\', and I don't think this string is run through the text formatter which might strip backslash escapes. Is this OK, or do we need to file bugs on those locales?

(In reply to comment #1) > Doing a quick search > http://lxr.mozilla.org/l10n-mozilla1.8.0/search?string=mailnews.start_page.url > > some of the locales use chrome\:// instead of plain chrome:// The properties parser falls back to append char, if \char doesn't have a special meaning, http://lxr.mozilla.org/mozilla1.8/source/xpcom/ds/nsPersistentProperties.cpp#213. So, \: is :, no problem other than a QA one.
