In the supplied URL, the top left logo is positioned half over a div with position: fixed, and half over a non-fixed div. The image is not position:fixed and appears on top of the other two divs through z-order.

If you grab the scoll bar slider and slide the scroll bar up and down at a slow-medium speed, so that the image is scrolled, the left hand side of the image scrolls more slowly than the right hand side, splitting the image temporarily into two portions. When the scroll stops, the left hand side catches up and the image is joined back together.

Could you please test this with Firefox 1.5 or SeaMonkey 1.0b. This was probably fixed during development of Gecko 1.8

Problem still exists under Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5. I thought this might be driver related, but the problem shows on my SiS-chipset laptop using the Xorg drivers, and my nVidia desktop with the accelerated binary drivers. Konqueror 3.5 doesn't tear.

I've created a short video with vnc2swf - it's available at http://lukeross.name/out.html. Notice how as the page is scrolled the "r" of the logo shears. This was filmed using Firefox 1.5 (as shown in the about box in the video).

Perhaps this is a Linux-only problem? I've prepared a minimal testcase, but it's more difficult to spot the shear - the simpler the page the more gecko can keep up, reducing the effect.

I'm not seeing this anymore either. Possibly roc's frame display lists patch, but I'm not sure. -> WFM

Yes, this does seem to be fixed in the latest 1.9a downloads. It's still ugly on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20060202 Fedora/1.0.7-1.2.fc4 Firefox/1.0.7, but looks nice on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060219 Firefox/1.6a1. Hopefully this will be fixed on the next release then.
