Are you able to modify abook.mab (create a backup first) and then set it back again? i.e. is there another program accessing it?

Have you tried restarting your machine?

Do you have any other applications that attempt to look at Thunderbird files (I think Google Desktop may)?

As a solution I already succeeded to return "old" abook.mab with NORTON and I found out, that Address book folder has now two folders:My own addressbook and Collected address book. Before Collected address book only could be seen ! All the addresses > 2.000 pcs can now be seen and used !
- Restart did not help !
- No other programs attemtions !

Thanks and regards, J.Paavola

Reporter, does the issue still occur in the latest supported 2.0.0.x / Shredder trunk nightlies?

(1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest supported 2.0.0.x is version 2.0.0.16)

Email from reporter goes,

Just to see if another process is locking the address book, try and download Process Explorer from SysInternals:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

- Open Thunderbird and then the Address Book to activate the error dialog.
- Run Process Explorer (you have to okay the agreement)
- Goto the menu Find > Find Handle or DLL
- Type "abook" (without the quotation marks "") and hit Search

Which processes jumps up in the search? Should only be "thunderbird.exe".
Reporter can you reply to comment #5, please?
