I found it inconvenient to switch tabs just to see the last couple of lines typed or to clear the state of the tab (red, green, blue, etc.). The attached patch adds tooltips to the tabs so that you can mouseover to see the recent content from the relevant tag in a tooltip. The state flag is automatically cleared when the tooltip is displayed.

There are two issues that bug me a bit about this patch. First the tooltip is generally too large for the enclosed text. I couldn't find a way to size it automatically to content, but if anyone knows how to do this, please let me know. Also, I kind of wanted the cursor to appear inside the tooltip so that mouseout would trigger the tooltip disappearing. I wasn't sure how to achieve this, so for the time the tooltip is cleared when the mouse is moved inside the tooltip.

Coding style isn't consistent with ChatZilla's style (http://hacksrus.com/~ginda/pedant.html), but more importantly I don't know that we want this feature.

Yeah, perhaps not. I wrote it because I find it very useful but if people want this functionality they can always apply the patch themselves.

I'm WONTFIXing since this has no traction. Personally I still use and like the tooltips, so if anyone thinks it's worth trying to get them into CZ we can reopen.
