There's no way to invoke edit mode without a mouse. At least on Windows, I'd expect F2 to enter edit mode, not sure about other platforms. Not sure how this would work in case there are two editable columns and selection is row-based.

I think it would be Alt+Enter on Mac.

This requires cell by cell focus navigation, which I don't think the cell selection patch implemented.

I was thinking about something that would work in the case when selection is cell-based OR when there's a single editable cell in a row (which I expect to be pretty common).

I don't think anyone is going to work on this given the plan to remove the XUL "tree" widget (bug 1446335).
