opening new blank tab "flashes" the pinstripe background before showing white?

try hitting cmd + t several times in a row, and then hold it down.

when I hit cmd + t several times in a row, I see it flash, and when I hold it the background appears to show me the pinstripe background.

I think this is a recent regression on the trunk, from when cocoa widgets were enabled.
