Eudora has never had this feature and this is a good time to add it.

Reproducible: Always

This would be tremendously useful for me! I currently use a filter combined with two cron jobs running some slightly gnarly shell script to channel particular e-mail attachments to a web site. How much better it would be to be able to send it automatically to AppleScript to handle!
I would suggest that if you could extend this on two levels
1) you should be able to execute any shell-type script provided that the interpreter is present: Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.
2) extend to all operating systems.

I totally agree with you. This would be a great feature to have. I know the apple mail client is capable of executing applescript through a filter. How hard could it be to make thunderbird capable of executing different types of scripts?
Bug 158019 should be the core bug for this.
Depends on: 158019
This would add almost infinite functionality to Tbird, and be much more powerful than extensions. How much of a security issue would it be?
Priority: -- → P5
I suppose if this were implemented, then Tbird could run bash scripts on Linux as well?
This is implemented as part of the filtaQuilla add-on so I think I am going to mark this a 'wontfix'.
