I have 18 unread emails in my Junk folder that don't really exist.

How do you know that? Try compacting the folder and/or deleting the .msf file for the folder. (see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder)

Thank you, compacting the folder was the answer and then delete all the messages.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → RESOLVED
