368125 - [10.4+] Unintended selection when pasting with context menu

There's another problem with the right-click hack:

Have some text, unselected, in a text area.
Have some more text on the clipboard.
Right-click in the blank area at the end of the text area to paste.

The last word/character/whatever will be selected, which is non ideal. This may be beyond our ability to hack around, so I'm not sure what the short-term solution is.

Actually, to some extent this is normal system behavior. The case where the system doesn't do it is, AFAICT, if you right click "on" the cursor (where "on" includes everything after the cursor if the cursor is at the end of the actual text).

Is right-click different from ctrl-click here?  Ctrl-click always gets me a selection in TextEdit/Stickies, no matter where I ctrl-click and/or where the cursor is.  If the cursor is at the end of the text and I ctrl-click a blank space beyond that, the last word/punctuation is selected.

I get the same behavior with control-click and right-click. I just tried on 10.3 though, and see what you describe, so I guess our current behavior is correct on 10.3 and wrong on 10.4 (updating title).

This used to work correctly on Camino with OS 10.4.8, maybe a month or two ago.
Looks like another fix broke this one.

It also still works correctly on Firefox 2.0.0.4 with OS 10.4.8

Yes, most likely a version of Camino without spell-checking (especially if it was closer to "two" months ago, before 1.5 shipped).

If you've been seeing this behaviour with pre-1.5 branch versions of Camino on 10.4, then my suspicion the other bug was a dupe is probably incorrect, but since that selection hack was introduced to fix a spell-checking problem, I highly doubt you'll find that to be the case.

We know exactly what causes this behavior, but within our ability to fix in the near term this regression is preferable to the problems that I hacked around in the first place.

Yes - I think you are absolutely correct.
Initially I thought the problem was due to a new mouse I had just bought, then the problem went away (because I was using another browser for sites that Camino can't access) and it took me quite a while to figure out that this issue was specifically Camino related.

Spell check BTW is very nice - does Camino use the Mac dictionary?
