Now matter what window is active, a pop-up for Orbitz appears. The pop-up window is blank, but says Orbitz on the top. This behavior started after upgrading yesterday to the latest version of Camino and appears both on my iMac G5 and my 12" PB. I have the pop-up blocker activated. CamiTools is installed, I have Java and plug-ins enables, I am not blocking Flash animations. I don't know if the pop-up would appear if (as I was typing this, another one appeared!) if Camino was not open.

happens randomly, but often when I am changing web sites, e.g. going from the NYT site to CNN, but it also happens when I am on an Apple site.

the pop-up appears randomly, sometimes when I hit F9, I will find several of them hiding behind the active window. I had not used my PB since I installed the new version of Camino, when I woke it this afternoon, a pop-up appeared immediately.
I'm not clear on the steps to reproduce here. Let me see if I have this straight:

You've seen this sometime after visiting the NYTimes, but you aren't sure if it appeared while you were visiting the Times or if it appeared upon leaving the Times (only for CNN, or have you had it happen when leaving the Times site for others?).

You've seen this while browsing Apple's site, but you aren't sure if it appeared while browsing Apple's site or prior to that point.

Am I OK so far?

Oh, and do you have ad-blocking turned on?

When I came to my computer this morning, I deleted 12 Orbitz pop-ups that had appeared overnight. The active page happened to be an Apple Discussion page. I have a number of tabs open, including the NYT and CNN, but the pop-ups can appear at any time. I restarted Camino last night, the first page that loaded was a weather page from my local ABC channel and the pop-up appeared immediately. I have ad blocking turned on. I don't know which site this is connected to, as far as I can tell, it's global, and occurs when the computer is idle as well. I mentioned the Times and CNN as examples, but no matter which web page I'm on, they appear. One popped up last night as I was on this page, writing my report. I cannot take any steps to reproduce, other than closing Camino and then re-opening it, the pop-up appear at random times. I just woke my PB from sleep, and within 2 seconds, the pop-up appeared. The active window was MacFixIt! It doesn't seem to be related to any specific site, the only common factor is that Camino is running.

I appreciate your taking the time to investigate this.

I might add that the Apple page does not refresh unless I purposely do so.
If you quit Camino, does it launch and show the popup? It sounds like you might have another program that's opening these via AppleEvents.

It doesn't launch by itself, but as soon as I launch it, the pop-up appears. I checked Activity Monitor and can find nothing untoward.
Does the problem persist if you use a fresh profile (try http://pimpmycamino.com/parts/troubleshoot-camino)?

If it still appears in a fresh profile, what about in a fresh Mac OS X user account?
After a flurry of pop-ups, the problem seems to have spontaneously vanished for the last three days. I have changed nothing in my prefs or profile, so I don't know if they are just taking a vacation, or are really gone - if they return, I'll post back.

Thanks for all the help, this remains one of those many mysteries in computerland.
