I am having an issue with a build in which I set --enable-tests, but not --enable-debug. It looks as though xpcshell is not calling the run_test function of a script I call it on. I am sure it is a misconfiguration or pilot-error, but it is hard to tell. There is no way to call xpcshell with a verbose option. The "-v" flag is already taken for "version". It is more common to use "-v" for "verbose" and "-vers" or "-version" for "version".
