If an email is received from an address that is in the address book, certain attributes of the address (e.g., the associated first and last name), as stored in the address book, may change spontaneously.  There seems to be no way to "lock" or "fix" an address book entry in order to prevent this from happening.

I think this may be a duplicate of bug 336412 which is fixed in time for Thunderbird 2.0 (it should be fixed in Thunderbird 2.0 beta 2). So could you try the beta version and see if that fixes your problem.

Could you also clarify what you mean by change? Does it change from one name to another, or from a name to a blank?

When I say that certain attributes of the address (e.g., the associated first and last name), as stored
in the address book, may change spontaneously, I mean that they seem to change to strings obtained from the header of the email message itself.  So, for example, if, in the header of the email, the email is said to originate from "Batman", then the first name associated with corresponding email address, as stored in the address book, may change to "Batman", and the last name may get erased.  This is problematic because, for example, an address book entry for "John Doe" may eventually become an entry for "Batman", making it difficult to find the entry (since I know John Doe by his name, not by "Batman").

Reporter, does this issue still occur in the latest supported 2.0.0.x / Shredder trunk nightlies?

(1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest supported 2.0.0.x is now 2.0.0.17)

Yes, this is still an issue.  I am running 2.0.0.14, which is the latest version that I could find for Mac.

By the way, I find it amazing that this seems to be a problem that no one else is complaining about, as it screws up your address book "big-time".  If you can fix it, I would be most grateful.  I am not a programmer and so am not at all capable of working on this myself.
