Actual, all page visits are stored into one table and the typed-in user input is compared to all history entries. For increasing the performance, Firefox should check first for matching host names and then receive the history entries for the matching hosts. So autocomplete would speed up and perform better, allowing to store the history longer and allowing the use of the matching hosts in the autocomplete (with tab-autocomplete or drop-down).

Sorting the on collecting is more efficient than sorting on each user input.
being that we search towards the full history and bookmarks when doing a search, that will make us slower rather than faster. i vote for WONTFIX.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
