User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Build Identifier: Thunderbird Version 2.0.0.0 (20070326)

When I startup Thunderbird 2.0, my Inbox is empty. When I check the directory where the messages are stored on the hard drive, the file sizes have been shrunk to 0 KB to 2 KB in size (when they used to be approx. 850 KB.) The problem seems to occur almost every time I startup Thunderbird. I use Google's G-Mail. All I am doing is downloading the messages from the server, exiting Thunderbird and starting Thunderbird and all of my messages will have disappeared.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download messages from server (ie, Google's G-Mail)
2. Exit Thunderbird.
3. Start Thunderbird.
Actual Results:
All of the messages that were downloaded or were stored in Thunderbird will have been deleted and the Inbox file on my hard drive will go from 850KB to 3KB in size.

Expected Results:
It should have retained all of the downloaded message when Thunderbird was stated back up.

Windows XP (with all updates as of April 29, 2007), Firefox 2.0.0.3, Cable internet service, Google G-Mail account, NOD32 anti-virus (I have tried enabled and disabled, makes no difference), Athlon64 X2 processor, 1GB ram.

What happen when you rebuild the folder index (right mouse click on the mail
folders name -> properties -> Rebuild index). Does this resolve your reported
problem ?
Version: unspecified → 2.0
Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, rebuilding the folder index does not recover the missing messages. When the problem happens, the Inbox and Inbox.msf files go from 856KB & 31KB (when Thunderbird is running and I can still see the messages) to 0KB & 3KB (after I exit Thunderbird and start it back up.) I have also started noticing that when I first startup Thunderbird it will show me how many unread messages I have for about 1/4 second then it goes to 0 and the messages will disappear from the window.
isn't this is a classic sign of antivirus activity?

jmail524 - Frankly I wouldn't trust disabling NOD32. I'd rip it out (uninstall), test, and reinstall. Can you do that and report back?
