When ever I forward an email, and also whenever I print an email that I have received the path shows and I cannot hide/get rid of it.

For printing you can adjust what is shown with the File > Page Setup | Margins and Header. 

When forwarding as attachment the url is shown as a tooltip, but this isn't shown to the recipients.

Or what did you mean? Also, thunderbird 2.0 is out.
