Build 2000-04-28-09M10: NT4, Linux 6.0, Mac 9.0 Overview: With any folder selected, the View menu should enable or disable menu items. Questions: 1. What criteria is used to determine if a View menu item is enabled or disabled? Couldn't most of them be enabled even if a message is not being displayed in the message pane? For instance, 4.7 disables the "Wrap Long Lines" item when only a folder is selected. Why not have the ability to control this before viewing a message? "View Attachments Inline" always appears disabled so why would this be different from "Wrap Long Lines"? I can see Reload, Stop, Page Source and Page Info being disabled if no message is displaying in the Message Pane. 2. Show Images: In 4.7 the Advanced Preference panel has an item to "Automatically Load Images". If this is selected then the View|Show Images option is disabled. If it is deselected then Show Images is enabled so that it may override the preference. Where is this preference item in Seamonkey? Should this menu item work the same way?
View Menu, Folder selected: Enabled: Toolbars ---> [ ] SideBar [ ] Message Sort by ---> Messages ---> Headers ---> [ ] View Attachments Inline [ ] Wrap Long Lines Enlarge Text Size ---Ctrl +/= Reduce Text Size ---Ctrl - Stop --- Cmd-. (mac) - Esc (others) Character Set --> Disabled: Reload Page Source --- Ctrl-U Page Info --- Ctrl-I "Stop" - disabled once the messages for the selected folder have been retrieved. "Show Images" would depending on the pref you mentioned. This pref still shows in the "Advanced" pane of Preferences for Netscape 6. I agree this isn't the best place for this pref and it ends up being a bit confusing in Mail. If folks want to spend time on this one, great, we can come up with a better solution, but I have a feeling with the current schedule, we will have to leave it as is for now.

According to bug# 45252: The following should be present: -View|Message|All -View|Message|Unread These items should be removed: -View|Message|Threads with Unread -View|Message|Watched threads with Unread -View|Message|Ignore Thread
per mail triage: remove nsbeta3 nomination and move to future milestone. For the short term, we will combine items here into three bugs (in 3pane) to address for nsbetat3: 1. delete, change text, move menuitems; 2. enable/disable and text changes on context (dynamic); 3. accelerator keys to work. When this bug gets revisited after the first release, we'll need to see what items remaining that need to be addressed.

Jen: Some changes have been implemented so I'm not sure if the spec needs to be updated. 1. View|Toolbars, is now View|Show/Hide, ('w' for mnemonic) 2. View|Messages, all the items in this list are present but do not match the order in the spec. Should the order of these items be changed or should the spec change? Either way is ok with me. These changes should occur in the product: 1. Remove a. Folder Character Coding (bug# 83318)
Current Menu Show/Hide ---> [ ] Sidebar --- F9 [ ] Message --------------------- Sort by ---> Messages ---> Headers ---> --------------------- Text Size ---> --------------------- Reload Stop --- Cmd-. (mac) - Esc (others) --------------------- Message Source --- Ctrl-U --------------------- Character Coding --> Disabled: Reload Message Source --- Ctrl-U "Stop" - disabled once the messages for the selected folder have been retrieved.
>1. View|Toolbars, is now View|Show/Hide, ('w' for mnemonic) Got it. >2. View|Messages, all the items in this list are present but do not match the >order in the spec. Should the order of these items be changed or should the >spec change? Either way is ok with me. I prefer the order/group of items as shown in the spec.

Doesn't look like this is getting fixed before the freeze tomorrow night. Pushing out a milestone. Please correct if I'm mistaken.

Are we supposed to incorporate suggestions from mpt/gerv on menus now? I seem to recall a big overhaul by them a few weeks ago, didn't want to work on menus still that was sorted.

I change resolution to Invalid for originally logged bugs for 3pane Main Menus. Some design changes happened since that time and now expectation is different. Current status of Main Menus is addressed in the summary bug 75622, which tracks a few leftovers for Main Menu mnemonic issues in 3-pane window according to updated Spec. So original ones can be closed.
