Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)
Build Identifier: mozilla firefox 2.0.0.4

Whenever firefox auto updates to version 2.0.0.4, I immediately get the message "Cannot find server", ie, it will no longer connect to the internet. I have uninstalled firefox from add\remove programs, downloaded the latest version from main mozilla site. Upon installing it, the same thing happens.
I fortunately had the installation files for version 2.0.0.2 saved on a portable device. As soon as I install 2.0.0.2, I can connect to the internet straight away. The same thing happens on firefox portable apps - 2.0.0.4 installs and I cannot connect to the internet, reinstall portable apps version 2.0.0.3 and I connect straight away.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Firefox version 2.0.0.4 auto updates
2.Immediately an unable to connect to the internet
3.Reinstall earlier firefox version and hqave immediate internet access
Actual Results:
There are no special steps - the 2.0.0.4 auto update (or new download of 2.0.0.4) will not work on my computer, but earlier versions do without a problem.
There have been no changes to the computer other than firefox 2.0.0.4 auto updating.

Expected Results:
I expect firefox 2.0.0.4 will connect to the internet, but it doesn't.
Version: unspecified → 2.0 Branch
Probably because a firewall is silently preventing Firefox from connecting to the internet.
The firewall sees the updated program as a possible suspected change and a good firewall should at least notify the user but it doesn't.

i and another have the same problem. we have the extensions tabmixplus and as many others as possible. running zone alarm. started happening with 2.0.0.3 but NOT from start of it. also running gmail and google search bar. msie does not have that problem- as bad, does skip a couple beats. also noticed that when i precede to coonect using msie, i can then connect with firefox. i do not know what the system simul connection setting is. (we are running xp). havent changed any equipment and changing the nameserver ip doesnt matter. WHAT I RECOMMEND is that the STATE & the LAST COMM MSG be included as a label (show in tab) with all connections. This area is too critical NOT to. Netmanage always did this - or.... included a "connection progress window popup" to analyze.

I DO NOT BELIEVE ITS A FIREWALL unless there is a timing/wait issue. been doing this 20 years as a troubleshooter and without going through a lot of testing, thats my guess.
