When importing .ics (Icalendar or Vcalendar) files into Sunbird, Sunbird doesn't check for duplicates; it just adds it as a new event. This causes some events to be duplicated. Sunbird should check to see if the events are the same and if so shouldn't import it. Outlook checks for duplicates so why can't Sunbird.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

3.
WORKSFORME using Sunbird 0.5 on Windows 2000. Trying to import the same .ics file again shows the following message: "XYZ item(s) were ignored since they exist in both the destination calendar and calendar.ics."

Could you check your .ics file if each event and task have a proper UID set? No UID makes the file invalid and Sunbird can't check for existing events with the same UID. Maybe you could attach the .ics file in question.

Also note that the vCalendar format is not supported by Sunbird, only the iCalendar format is supported.
