Everywhere, the thunderbird {2007-07-09) that is downloaded from the calendar/lightning/latest-trunk directory displays "Mail/News" rather than "Thunderbird"

The tinderboxen are not doing official Thunderbird builds and therefore use the generic branding and not the Thunderbird branding. Mail/News is the name of non-official Thunderbird builds. (Like "Calendar" vs. "Sunbird" and like "Minefield" vs. "Firefox") -> works as expected, resolving invalid.
