User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070521 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.4 (20070720) I want my sort order fixed at "order received". I have set the preference mailnews.default_sort_order to 21, but this doesn't help. The sort order keeps changing to order by date. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. I've seen this behavior over many releases.

I found only 1 and 2 can be set for mailnews.default_sort_order Reference: ############################################################################## mailnews.default_sort_order: 1 = Ascending, 2 = Descending. mailnews.default_sort_type: 17 = None, 18 = Date, 19 = Subject, 20 = Author, 21 = ID (Order Received), 22 = Thread, 23 = Priority, 24 = Status, 25 = Size, 26 = Flagged, 27 = Unread, 28 = Recipient, 29 = Location, 30 = Label, 31 = Junk status, 32 = Attachments, 33 = Account ##############################################################################

I tried on windows xp Thunderbird version 2.0.0.6 (20070728) Reproduce steps: 1. Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor 2. Change mailnews.default_sort_type: from 18 (= Date) to 19 (= Subject) Actual Result: After #2, Messages are still sorted by date. I am not sure the Expected result for we just change the "default" configuration. Change OS to "All" and waiting for more discussion.
OS: Solaris → All

I'd love to be able to set this. Appears to still be an issue in 3.0.1?

bienvenu, do you know if there is an historical reason for this?

sort order is up or down (ascending or descending), 1 or 2. sort_type is what you want to be setting to pick order received. the default only affects new folders that don't already have a sort type and sort order picked.

So how can I make my INBOX stick at sort_type 21?

When does it change away from order received? Is it IMAP or local? Does the summary file get rebuilt?
