on the new version both the delete icon and the sent folder do not work.

Please can they be resolved or can you tell me how i can go back to the old version.

Software should have put e-mail sent into sent box.. did not

Delete should delete and does not.
andrew: we need more info than that. Deleting and saving to Sent folder certainly works fine for most people.

What kind of mail account is it? Have you disabled all extensions? What are your "Copies and Folders" settings for the account? You didn't check the "place replies in the folder of the message being replied to" did you?
I'm having the same problem with the [Delete] icon, and probably have been for the last two builds. (I'm currently using build 2.0.0.9, and also had the problem with 2.0.0.8.) My settings are for a 'POP Mail Server' account. I have not changed any settings I know of since early September, when I had to replace my Earthlink ISP with Embarq because Embarq DSL (formerly Sprint) discontinued their partnership, and then only to replace Earthlink with Embarqmail.

As it's behaving now: When I'm reading my mail, the [Delete] icon refuses to work right on maybe half of my messages. In most of those instances, I will click on the icon and nothing will appear to happen. But when I close the message, it has disappeared from the inbox and moved to the trash folder.

Reporter (or Tim) the issue is still present?

Could you try to see if it still happens with
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/ ?
Yes, it's still happening. I'm now using version 2.0.0.23 (20090812) on Windows 7rc (build 7100), and at least half the time the [Delete] icon appears to do nothing when I hit it. Yet when I close the message, it has disappeared from the inbox and moved to the trash folder.

Two things:

1. can you try in safe-mode and report here if the issue is still alive?
see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

2. what is your retention settings?
no response from reporter to comment 5. (another question would be, what are your autosave and message check intervals)

I'll try to respond to comments 5 & 6 in the next few days. (I apparently missed seeing comment 5 back in October.) I've regressed to Windows XP w/SP3 since then. The problem is still there, but I've realized it's only there for the first little while (maybe 15 minutes?) of each session. If I leave TB up and come back an hour later, it works the way it's supposed to.
1. That "first little while" in my previous comment is a lot longer than 15 minutes. Today, it was at least an hour before the Delete icon started working properly.

2. Retention settings: nothing is set to be automatically deleted. The only "Empty trash on exit" checkbox that was checked was in Local Folders. All the others were unchecked. But all the mail is going into Local Folders, so the Trash folder was being emptied on exit anyway. (I've just checked that box on each account, in case it will help.)

3. Message Check Interval is every 10 minutes (on all accounts).

4. I haven't found anything about "Autosave". Where would that be?

5. Under |Options|Network & Disk Space|, the setting "Compact folders when it will save over ___" is unchecked. (I think it used to be checked a long time ago, but that caused additional problems.)
