New version displays unwanted icons above the attachment, I can't disable.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. receive a email with jpg-attachments
2. search options, configure and setup
3.
Actual Results:
New version suddenly displays icons above attachments

Expected Results:
No Icons or a switch to enable old behavior

These unneeded icons waste a lot of space on the screen
try setting mailnews.attachments.display.largeView to false (in about:config).
see bug 223340 comment 149.

Thanks a lot! They are not totally disabled,
but it works - they get smaller again (after restart).

This bug is not fixed (as far as I can tell from the comments here). about:config hacks are merely *workarounds* until a proper fix is made (like switching to the smaller icons whn the big one would cause the attachments pane to overflow).
->INVALID (FIXED is only used when known code changes resolved the issue)

Peter: no one said anything about overflowing, he just didn't like an icon being shown AFAICT.
Resolution: FIXED → INVALID
I just filed bug 395695 to auto-switch to small icons when the large icons and the number of attachments would cause the attachment pane to overflow.
Well done. But what I expect is an option somewhere in the GUI
(not hidden in about:config) to select the layout like
  ATTACHMENT-ICONS: none/small_left/big_left/small_ontop/big_ontop
or whatever permutations may be appropriate.
