Select some words in firefox, then unselect them, then click the middle button in gedit, you will see the selection is still copied as it is not cleared in fact.
This will cause problem on some translation software, such as StarDict, which monitor selection to see the user action changes.
All gtk2 widget will clear the selection when it is unselected, so I hope firefox can follow this strategy too.

gnome-terminal's behaviour is the same.
This bug was originally reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.6 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME
