When I copy from any other document, like Microsoft Word, or a website, and then insert it into a new message, I can get the fonts to be alike for the entire message, even though I might copy different sources with different font sizes. However, when I send the email, the recipients always tell me the fonts are in different sizes, sometimes so small it is hard to read. I am wondering why Thunderbird does this, and if there is a way to repair this problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Copy text from webpage or from internal document
2.Paste to Thunderbird email message in the text box
3.Send email
Actual Results:
The email fonts get changed on the receiver's computer when they open the message. I also see it is changed when I post an email to a blog or to a website.

Expected Results:
The fonts changed.

Fonts should be the same as they appear in the email that is sent out.
Can't tell from your description what the problem could be. Attach a sample mail (save as .eml).

On a side note, why bother with fonts at all? I don't particularly like it when people send me mails with 4 different fonts and 5 colors just for the fun of it... and I'm not alone :p

If you send plain text messages the recipients will see the mail in exactly the font they have set as their preferred font on their computer.
Well, I have to bother with fonts, as this is a educational tool used and is posted to another site. You can look at what it changes to by going to this site and then clicking on: Reflections into Infinity - where you will not the smaller font and in some of the postings multiple font sizes. So the problem is not only found in other people's email - of course many people get what you will be viewing not only from this website, but also directly emailed to their inbox as part of our church's devotional emails. Again, check this site out:

The posting for today (Wednesday) was done via Outlook Express. The next two were done via Thunderbird. You will see the difference.

Thank you very much for looking into this.
It's hard to tell what how the blog modified what it received. Take one of those messages from you sent folder, save as .eml and attach it to this bug.
Let me know if you are able to open this. This attachment is being sent per your request.
Maybe you just have to adjust your font size settings under Options | Composition | HTML
This seems to be the same problem as reported here:
