User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11
Build Identifier: 20071031

The spell check language selector box does not display anything. It is about 1/2 the height it should be to display text. It also cannot be selected via TAB or SHIFT+TAB keystrokes and no spell checking appears to occur since there is no language selected.

This was not an issue in previous versions

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Thunderbird
2. Go to Tools->Options->Composition->Spelling
3. Press TAB three times and it will skip the language selector even with multiple dictionaries installed OR try clicking on the language selector box.
Actual Results:
Doing those things above means that you *won't* be able to open the selector box or choose a spell check language as the selector box is non-selectable.

Pressing TAB 3 times takes you to the download more dictionaries option instead.

Expected Results:
The language selector should be selected.

Without this it also appears that the spell check itself is not working - perhaps because no dictionary is selected???
I can confirm you can't tab to it, but other than that I don't have a problem with it. The code's around here: http://mxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/mail/components/preferences/compose.xul#221
I'd like to have added the e-mail address jesus_freak@picknowl.com.au as a CC. This is my own e-mail address (I'm currently on holidays visiting my Dad and don't have access to my own e-mail - but I'm heading back home tomorrow so I'll be able to help my Dad with this later if need be, by getting the e-mails as well as him).

We're having problems with the spell checker itself as well as the UI issue and it won't bring up any words at all. Looking at the code provided in the previous comment, there is a part that says the dictionary list is populated by JS. It appears that that may not be happening. When the spell checker is run, even when I deliberately misspell words the checker says no words are misspelled.

We have downloaded both the English Australian and English US dictionaries. However, I'm unsure where in the subdirectories the download process is meant to put them to verify if they are there.

We can add a screen capture to demonstrate the UI issue with the box, if that helps.

We're not sure if the spell checker not working is a separate problem (if it is a problem) or a symptom of the UI bug.
Make sure the dictionaries actually installed into *thunderbird* (not firefox). You have to right-click, download the .xpi and go to Thunderbird | Add-ons | Install... and choose the file.

(Yes it's confusing and there are bugs open for fixing it.)
Reporter can you reply to comment #3?

This issue is still present with last 2.0.0.22 release?
