User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-DE; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121120 Firefox/3.0b2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-DE; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121120 Firefox/3.0b2 When a window is closed -- whether or not another window of FF is active -- the system clipboard is cleared. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Copy the URI from the location bar. 2. Close the FF window. 3. Try pasting it into another app. Actual Results: Pasting is impossible since the clipboard is empty. Expected Results: If this is a feature and not a bug, please consider adding an option in about:config for letting the clipboard retain its contents after closing a window. If this is a feature: Not being able to change this sucks -- I cannot see any practical sense not having this function associated with the "Clear private data" function, where the user actually has control and which is something that can be automated as well. Any other opinion is welcome, thanks in advance.

Works for me with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9b3pre) Gecko/2008010304 Minefield/3.0b3pre

I see this often, also without closing the window and also using a new clean profile, and at least since Firefox 1. So this could be a duplicate.

I am having this Problem, too. Seems to be gtk related though?! Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008122011 Iceweasel/3.0.5 (Debian-3.0.5-1)

This is a Windows only bug. The bug in comment 3 and comment 4 is bug 311340 which is Linux only.

This works for me too with Firefox 3.0.5 on Windows XP. Perhaps the bug reporter meant to report it for Linux?

Could this be because Private Browsing Mode clears any copied data on close? I find that _very_ annoying.

No. That was a Linux only bug. This bug is reported against Win XP. I can't reproduce this with a new profile. If the user sets Firefox to 'never remember history' or is in private browsing mode the clipboard is cleared when Firefox exits and that is the correct behavior.

Well, this is a bug... Because the only clever solution is that Firefox in the privacy mode asks, when closing - as several other applications do when closed: "You have stored data in the clipboard. Do you want to keep it when Firefox is closed?" - or the like. OR that there is a setting for the privacy mode to exclude clearing the clipboard. I wish that it be considered to introduce this kind of important improvement for the next update, to avoid a really annoying "feature"...

The clipboard is intentionally cleared when swapping modes. bug 528856 As this stands the bug does not have steps to reproduce the reporter's problem. Closing as incomplete.
