This is a very simple test case; the real problem means I can't print chessboards from chessmaniac.com which is a free site, but requiring registration.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.load gif as a file into Firefox
2. print to cups_pdf printer or to a shared cups printer
3.

Expected Results:
see second attachment

The picture should print as it appears on screen.
when I print it to an HP PSC 2175 printer managed by cups (on a server) the paper printout looks exactly the same as this attached pdf
