User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b5pre) Gecko/2008030405 Minefield/3.0b5pre
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b5pre) Gecko/2008030405 Minefield/3.0b5pre

All while holding a url icon - if after grabbing the url icon to make a bookmark you hover over the bookmarks menu to open it then leave the area, the bookmark menu doesn't close. Even after dropping the url icon, the bookmark menu still stays open. Now all the menus can be switched to if you hover over them as if the menu system never closed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Browse to any page
2. Grab the url icon as if to drag and drop a bookmark
3. Hover over the 'Bookmarks' menu
4. Leave the bookmarks menu area

Actual Results:
Bookmarks menu stayed open until some other 'specific' action was taken such as hitting the escape key(a second time if the escape key was used to cancel the drag and drop) or clicking on a menu / page.

Expected Results:
After leaving the 'bookmarks' menu area with a drag and drop link, the bookmark menu should close.

This bug was confirmed by other people in the firefox build forums on windows vista.
I believe its intended to stay open, see bug:

However once the bookmark menu is open it covers the bookmark toolbar. Then you can't access that part of the toolbar to, say, drop the bookmark there instead. One must go through the arduous task of dropping the link(or hitting escape or whatever), closing the bookmark menu, grabbing the link again and drag it to the bookmark toolbar.
urp, I should clarify. I agree with bug 419740, however that pertains to remaining in the bookmark menu or having descritely clicked on the 'Bookmarks' menu. This bug is for Drag and Drop - once you leave the area with the mouse(remember you're still holding the left mouse button) it should close - it isn't currently doing this.
New information to maybe help in fixing this bug:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b5pre) Gecko/2008030904 Minefield/3.0b5pre

If you do this and open the bookmark menu, and then in that menu hover over a folder, if you move your held url icon over the folder pop-out menu and then off the menu completely the entire bookmark menu closes as expected.

This bug is also present in the current beta 4 rc.

menu close timer has been removed because it was highly bogus, so we probably need a new (working) close timer to catch this edge case. confirming as something to investigate on

Summary: Bookmark menu doesn't close after hovering over it with url icon → Bookmark menu doesn't close after hovering over it with favicon from location bar
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.

Really old bug, most of the code changed, as well as expectations, I don't think we still need to track this.
