A window for location bar is pretty annoying. I thought it could work as a toolbar that opens up from below the content area, just like Find/Quick Find toolbars.

The toolbar would have the same options the real navigation bar location bar has: the location bar. Don't know how used are the options present in the Open Web Location window. Personally, I just open a new tab first, and then go to any page I want. Much faster than selecting the target in the window.

Note that the proposed location bar toolbar would be hidden after the requested page is opened.

It's not good for security. If you are redirected to a malicious site, you can't notice that at all. IMO it's better to WONTFIX.

Andrés isn't suggesting changing any default behavior, just the behavior you get if you have intentionally removed the address bar using "Customize Toolbars".

My considerations are still valid. Currently it's almost impossible to not use the location bar. If Firefox will have such a "quick location bar", an user could use it instead. IMO it's not a good idea at all.

Then you should propose a new security method instead, because relying on a GUI element that can already be hidden now "is not good for security". Something that cannot be hidden, maybe an information bar. But definitely not the location bar.

You can hide the location bar now. The idea of offering a feature is for users to use it... right?

You could argue for an opt-in/opt-out, but if you really care about security, reread reply for comment #2.

What I'm saying is that you _can_ hide now the location bar, but it's virtually _impossible_ to work without it. And IMO it's better that.

I'm not saying your idea is stupid. At all. I'm just saying it's better to not do it.

And to you. The fact itself you are requesting a "quick location bar" for using it without the standard one, means that the location bar, quick or not, _is_ necessary ;-)

I think anyway the behaviour you described - hide the location bar after the page is loaded - can be useful in fullscren mode.

The navigation bar can no longer be hidden since Firefox 29.
