Epass Canada the federal government electronic identification system suggest, when you log in, to use Firefox 1.0.6. It does not block you. It give the impression to the user that he is not using the good version of Firefox and adds a step to log in for Firefox user. To repeat : 1. browse to http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/eservices/tax/individuals/myaccount/menu-f.html 2. Click "ouvrir une session". You will get a message of error. I will contact the goverment agency that is in charge by phone.

Yeah, this is pretty broken with anything that is not exactly Firefox 1.0.6's UA string, which I can't seem to find at the moment (and I'm not entirely sure that it isn't totally broken on the Mac unless you're using Safari 1.3 or 2.0). https://blrscr3.egs-seg.gc.ca/js/browserCheck.js is their browser-detection script, and good luck actually interpreting it. (The above applies to the English version of their site; I assume the French version uses the same scripts.)

By the way, they also sniff for Java 1.4.2.something. Newer Java versions won't work either, which means this site truly *is* broken on a lot of browsers. (Not for a valid technical reason, mind you, but in some perverted sense, their browser sniffing is at least partially correct.)
It actually works with Firefox 2 as well, I've always been using it. It does complain that I'm not using a compliant browser, but it works. The latest Java update seems to have broken though. I can't even get to the browserCheck page.
Also another thing I noticed is that, after I click logon and it's checking my browser, if I type anything in the search bar, everything comes out in reverse.

First contact was made with cs-sh@cra-arc.gc.ca
I downgraded my Java from 1.6 Update 5 to 1.5 Update 15, seems to fix it.

Gabriel, what does this work with now? What browsers have you tested with, in other words? (I can't test this myself at the moment but I should be able to next week if I remember.) cl

Gabriel, do you have any other browsers that you can test with? Seamonkey would be a good start. I'll look into this more as soon as I can, too.
