I did a test run through the Serbian fx3b5, here are my findings: Installer, many garbage strings, partly English. English installer might be fine due to code page issues with Serbian not being totally Cyrillic. Profile manager: untranslated strings for Create Profile and friends. Create Profile wizard unusable due to dialog size being too small, can't get to the button. Menus: History menu has wrong accesskey. View -> Zoom menu untranslated Tools menu has bad accesskeys Options dialogs: Untranslated "add-ons" strings in general pane. Other in the Contents pane. Fonts subdialog is too narrow Preference dialog too narrow for Advanced pane. Advanced -> Network settings subdialog too narrow. Larry (new security UI) is untranslated. I'm afraid that I'd consider the installer a blocker for B5 on windows, at least. I know that many of these problems are expected, as filmil pushed fx3 in a rush on top of his fx2 work, so we need, in particular for B5, a good call on what to ship to get feedback on. Mic, Chris, Filip, comments?

Well, with these findings, I have to say the only way out is to keep translating. There's a lot to do. I will not be surprised if you decide to drop l10n-sr for B5, but the decision is yours. Once again, thanks for the insight. f

here is what the site authentication stuff looks like in the current build. click on the favicon to bring up the dialog. I'll have to hunt to find where these strings are located in the source tree.

Filip, looking at those installer screen shots can you tell if there enough basic translated material there for an average Serbian user to make it though the install process? If things like [next] buttons are readable that would be the basic thing I think we need. There is more explanitory information on each dialog, but we could probably get by without that for beta testing.

Unfortunately, I do not have Windows so I don't know why the garbage text appears. If I understand it well, the text should be readable when displayed as CP1251. However, this does not seem to happen where you're testing. Advice appreciated.

FWIW, I've tested ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/tinderbox-builds/latest-trunk-l10n/firefox-3.0b5pre.ru.win32.installer.exe on Windows XP SP2 Russian and installer looks OK. If you see garbage strings, probably you are missing cyrillic fonts installed.

Ah, thanks. Ok, I couldn't find out why this would happen comparing sr with ru myself, so the next thing I would have asked is to cross check. Maybe chofmann can verify that the russian installer shows the same artifacts? If so, I guess that's just the way it is. I would have thought that font problems look different, like, like font problems. My bad. To me, that makes windows equal to the other platforms in terms of shipping for b5.

I've got a machine at home with better font support so I'll try it out there as back up confirmation. I agree, let's ship it.

ok, checking on my home winxp laptop I see problems with both sr and ru installers. In control panel | regional and lang options | languages I have previously selected the "install r-t-l (including thai)" and the "install filese for east asian languages" and ran the set up for that font support. I don't see any addtional set up for any cyrilic font support, and articles like http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PaulGor/fonts_e.htm seem to indicate that cyrillic fonts should "just work" out of the box on windows XP. I also poked around on the advanced tab and added code page coversion tables for cyrillic(serbian) and a few others, but that didn't seem to help either. Anyone know how I can set up my system or point to some other things to check or install to have these fonts used in the sr and ru installers come out right?

(In reply to comment #17) > Anyone know how I can set up my system or point to some other things to check > or install to have these fonts used in the sr and ru installers come out right? Try to use manual on http://www.gwu.edu/~slavic/gw-cyrillic/cyrilize.htm

The instruction at: http://www.gwu.edu/~slavic/gw-cyrillic/cyrilize.htm#system_fonts seems relevant. Note that while the system font is set to Cyrillic, all system chars that fall outside of the Cyrillic code page will display as a Cyrillic character. E.g. accented Latin letters will not be seen well. That is, until you revert to old settings.

Thanks Filip, From http://www.gwu.edu/~slavic/gw-cyrillic/cyrilize.htm#system_fonts The absence of Cyrillic here is because Windows XP as installed on computers in North America automatically selects system fonts and code page settings for English. Fortunately, you can change the settings back and forth quite easily. 1. Start -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Advanced 2. Look for Language for non-Unicode programs. Choose Russian and click OK. 3. Reboot when prompted to do so. I was able to make the changes to Russian and now the sr installer shows the right fonts and installer dialogs look pretty (except for some english test that needs translation).

Not sure, this bug is a bit hard to track down with the mix between real issues and font problems. The installer stuff seems to be OK, what about the rest of the issues mentioned in comment 0? If they're fixed, feel free to close this bug out.

I'll go through the list in an attempt to close this ticket out. (In reply to comment #0) > Installer, many garbage strings, partly English. English installer might be > fine due to code page issues with Serbian not being totally Cyrillic. The installer is now fully translated. The "garbage strings" issue is in fact Bug 305039. I'd stop considering it here. > Menus: History menu has wrong accesskey. > View -> Zoom menu untranslated > Tools menu has bad accesskeys Access keys should be fine since 3RC1. > Untranslated "add-ons" strings in general pane. Other in the Contents pane. There are no unwanted untranslated strings since RC1 in the often used GUI. > Larry (new security UI) is untranslated. Larry is now translated.
