User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080311 Firefox/2.0.0.13 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080311 Firefox/2.0.0.13 Hi, when Firefox is auto-updated, the google search field (right to the address field) comes to default language (english), when the installation language is not english. I use the french version and it happens each time a new update is available since the first time I installed. It would be nice that the setting is kept when Firefox is auto updated ... Mathieu - Paris Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install an older version of firefox in a non-english language. 2. Make a search using the google search field : the result are those of the localized site of Google (for example google.fr) 3. Auto-update firefox to the most recent version 4. Make a new search in google : the results are those from Google's main site (google.com) and there is no option to see localized results. Expected Results: When Firefox is auto-updated, the search language setting is kept.

(In reply to comment #0) > 1. Install an older version of firefox in a non-english language. How much older? Did this occur after an upgrade from 1.5.0.x to 2.0.0.x? I think we probably used localized Google plugins in 1.5.0.x, while we only use one Google plugin in Firefox 2 (google.com). It's supposed to forward you to the appropriate localized site, but perhaps it's not doing that for you for some reason.

Note, google has changed their default behaviour lately from using accept-lang to set your language to using geo-location. Though, the google cookies should stick across updates.

(In reply to comment #2) > Note, google has changed their default behaviour lately from using accept-lang > to set your language to using geo-location. So next time I'm at FOSDEM and use Google on my laptop, I'll get the results in Dutch or French? Craptastic...

Yes. I get French googles in Paris, Tristan gets German googles in Berlin.

Given all the comments it means that we cannot do anything for this particular topic. Axel, can we close this bug out as invalid?

We've seen a bunch of comments, but no follow up comments from Mathieu. Mathieu, what are your cookie settings, if I may ask? Go to about:config, and search for network.cookie, and list all non-default values? I'd also be interested if you can reproduce this on a 3.5.x build, and if you can reproduce it on a new profile.
