I recently upgarded to the latest Knujon(?) (2.0?) from an older version and since then my Thunderbird will download messages but won't retain them, ie. I mean going back to my inbox they've simply vanished. I've removed Knujon but the problem is still there. How do I resolve this? as I'm resorting to webmail on my account at the moment as I don't like loosing mail. Thanks in advance.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Thunderbird
2. Download latest mail and open a message; read it and close Thunderbird
3. Reopen Thunderbird; no retained messages.

check if View -> Messages is set to Unread rather than All?

Okay that works temporarily but it reverts back to all after closing T'bird. How do I retain the settings?
not sure why that would not persist -- possibly crashes on exit or extension problem (try http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode ) or corrupt localstore.rdf, which is in the profile folder and contains various view settings, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf

(marking this invalid as the view setting would have been just an accident)

Thanks for both these suggestions but I have the following comments.
1 the bug is stll there in safe-mode;
2 I deleted the localstore and restarted t'bird but the bug is still there.

do I completely remove t'bird and stArt afresh? if so how?

while thunderbird was running? or did you use the "reset toolbars and controls" checkbox followed by "make changes and restart"?

I wasn't given the option to "reset etc" on start up in safe-mode, so I closed t'bird and deleted them off-line. The reset option only comes up in firefox safe-mode does it not? as the note you sent me to me was for the latter not t'bird. I still experiencing the loss of email and took XP to a restore point 14 days ago (well before the problem occuring) and the bug is still there. Thanks for you help but what now?
ah, thought that ui exists in tbird as well; apparently not.

ehm, "All" is supposed to show all? are you saying it doesn't show all mail in the folder when "All" is selected? (also, the similar setting under View -> Threads may be of interest)
Summary: Loosing mail → Losing mail
It appears to retain them if you change threads to All; fingers crossed this is fixed. But why should it the latter changed status? as never in looked or touched the threads menu? Thanks for you help; I'll reopen this bug if it reappears.
Cliff, so this is now working?

Wayne, it is working as normal at the moment as I said in comment 8. I can't replicate the problem at the moment but caused it in the first place? Also, I'd like to install Knujon as I'm still get the odd spam that slips the ISP's normally effective filer.
I don't know anything about Knujon. Have you checked in their support groups, and Thunderbird's? http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/

I checked the support groups when I first reported the problem and found nothing. I think that is now resolved and working fine and wish to close the bug report.

Cliff, We use FIXED when the fixing patch is identified. So the proper resolution here is WFM. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#resolution
