I wonder if an additional bug is needed for the thunderbird menus link to deal with the composition Window Menus which are different. * Insert * Format * Options * Tools

What needs updating? The page instructs people to use nightlies.

In Comment #5 of Bug #431917 I proposed a review of this page. An example of what I asked to be reviewed is the quote taken from Section 2. "The major difference between Thunderbird and Mozilla is the user interface (e.g. the toolbars, menus, status bar, etc., referred to as the "chrome" in Mozilla terms)." The use of Mozilla in the first instance here implys the Mozilla Suite. If that was the original intent then it should be edited to SeaMonkey. It's a nit. Section 2. is the only portion of the page I saw the issue. Ron K.

I assume you pasted the wrong bug number. :-) I have to disagree with the implication of Mozilla = Mozilla Suite. Reading the paragraph, it's clear to me that Mozilla = not-Thunderbird-specific code.

Was looking at the wrong tab. Bug #430762. OK, when taken in the context of Mozilla being a consolidation of the toolkit and core code referenced then Mozilla useage is clear. So the current wording WFM then. Any comment on Comment #1 above.

Other than that, was there something else in the page needing updating for Tb3? FWIW, there's already a bug (bug 364665) for using a search field rather than using a list of already reported bugs. Regarding a menu reference for the composition window, sounds great to me. File a bug, and feel free to take it on.

The issue that prompted me to generate my comment in Bug #430762 is resolved. I do not mind the pre-defined search links. I tend to botch search terms to get good results. As for the additional menu reference I will open a bug for it. I appreciate the second opinion.

Overall a great document. In my brief read, I agree no thunderbird 3-specific changes needed. However, several improvements might be made which would help people who will be seeing the document for the first time. Not a complete list: 1. queries don't include verified bugs 2. I'm unclear as to the value of this statement - "the list of previously filed bugs is constantly growing, but if you look in the appropriate category, you'll notice that the list isn't that long." ... but if it is retained, a) category=>component, b) include verified, c) it's a horrifically long query, so perhaps split it into ENH and non-enh 3. the document assumes one is testing/running nightlies, which should be stated at the outset. 4. add "by using custom install" to "Always install it in an empty folder." 5. arent' there more than two possibilities at the following statement and what flows after it? "If you do not see the bug when using the latest nightly build and a new profile, there are two possibilities:" 6. much of section 2 "Determine which product has the bug" doesn't read well to me even though I know the stuff (maybe that's the problem?). Including "If the bug exists in SeaMonkey, you should file the bug in the most relevant component of the product Core." A rethink here might be helpful 7. the thought at "If this is a new bug in the latest nightly build, you could always look in the list of bugs filed today." is slightly incomplete. 8. regarding comment 3 and comment 4 - I disagree this is clear. In my reading "mozilla" is used in reference to core, toolkit and suite and it is confusing - nix "mozilla" and you fix the problem. Would be great is someone could take on doing the revision. Hint, hint. Especially from a newbie point of view. Simply use https://doctor.mozilla.org/?action=edit&file=mozilla-org/html/support/thunderbird/bugs.html - click save changes, "download diff", and attach the diff file to this bug. The trick is to be accurate, while still being brief.

Is this bug wontfix if the Thunderbird support page information is going to be pointing to mozillamessaging.com now?

hi david boswell, yes please please change this to the status (not sure if that is WONTFIX) that reflects that this page will be updated and moved as part of Bug 455843. I plan on starting 455843 tomorrow!

Marking as wontfix. If I can help with removing and redirecting anything on www.mozilla.org, let me know.
